Fuel Oil by
Arta Energy Innovators (artaEI)
Fuel Oil 180 (FO 180) and Fuel Oil 380 (FO 380) are heavy fuel oils, mainly used in large industrial and marine applications.
Fuel Oil 180
Fuel Oil 180 is a medium-viscosity heavy fuel oil. It is thicker than diesel but lighter than FO 380. Because of its lower viscosity, it is easier to pump and handle. FO 180 is commonly used in industrial boilers, power plants, and some marine engines that do not require very heavy fuel. It usually contains a higher level of impurities compared to light fuels, so it needs proper treatment before use.
Fuel Oil 380
Fuel Oil 380 is a high-viscosity heavy fuel oil and is thicker and heavier than FO 180. It is widely used in large marine engines (ships) and big industrial facilities. Due to its thickness, it requires heating before it can flow properly. FO 380 is generally cheaper than lighter fuels, but it has higher sulfur content and more impurities, which means more processing and emissions control are needed.
In summary:
•FO 180 is lighter and easier to handle
•FO 380 is heavier, thicker, and more commonly used in large ships
•Both are mainly used where high energy output is needed at lower fuel cost
